My Approach

I am a qualified teacher and Accredited Dyscalculia Teacher with over 15 years of experience in mathematics education. I've loved maths from an early age and I believe that every child has the potential to enjoy maths and become confident and capable mathematicians.

My Teaching Background

I have extensive experience teaching in primary schools, gaining a deep knowledge of teaching primary maths. I began my teaching career as a primary class teacher in London state schools, enjoying being fully involved in primary school life. Since moving to east Surrey, I have focussed on my specialist subject, maths, most recently being a KS2 maths teacher at Reigate St Mary's Prep School. Here I also became head of KS2 maths, where I supported the teaching and learning of maths across the Upper School.

I have worked with pupils from year 2 through to year 13 and with pupils with dyscalculia, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, working memory difficulties and processing difficulties.

Throughout my teaching career I have enjoyed designing and delivering group maths interventions. They have ranged from maths booster groups in the first schools I taught at, to school-based COVID catch-up group tuition to more recently, 11+ preparation and 'ready for secondary' grouips. I have loved seeing the impact of my interventions on my pupils' progress, confidence and enthusiasm.

I appreciate the personalised approach I can employ in my 1:1 teaching. My first experience of this was working with secondary pupils in a London secondary school as a volunteer before I trained as a teacher, and since then I have have provided private GCSE tuition as well as 1:1 maths support in primary schools. I have always found that my 1:1 work has a huge impact on a pupil's confidence and since becoming an Accredited Dyscalculia Teacher, my 1:1 teaching now focuses on addressing gaps in knowledge and understanding arising from maths difficulties.
